The Paleolithic diet, also known as the paleo diet or caveman diet, encourages people to construct a diet plan based on what our early human ancestors might have eaten. Common paleo foods include lean meat, nuts, and berries. Supporters of the diet posit that during the Paleolithic era humans evolved nutritional needs that were specific to the foods available to them at that time, and that these evolved nutritional needs can be transferred onto the modern human population. They claim that the human metabolism has been unable to evolve fast enough to properly digest the mass influx of processed foods that are now so inherent to modern diets. Following this line of thinking, then, humans are maladapted to eating foods such as grains, legumes, and dairy as well as all other high-calorie processed foods. In order to combat obesity, heart disease, and diabetes, proponents of the diet encourage a return to the unprocessed foods of our ancient ancestors. While the paleo diet eschews grains and legumes, the diet does allow for the use and consumption of coconut flour. Our coconut flour is gluten free, allergen free, and organic and works perfectly for those following the paleo diet!
