What is Fava Bean?
Vicia Faba is the botanic name for Fava Bean, also called the swamp bean. This pulse, very popular in the Charlevoix and Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean regions of Québec is the main ingredient of the famous fava bean soup.

Nutrition and health
Rich in vegetable protein, carbohydrates and dietary fiber, Fava Bean contains almost no fat. Its high content in copper, manganese, iron, and thiamine make it a great health ally.

Origin
Supposedly domesticated for 10000 years, when its big size and nutritional value started being acknowledged, its French name, gourgane, comes from the Normand dialect used by sailors that used to pack it in their provisions.
